FORT COLLINS, COLO. – Realities For Children, which provides emergency services for abused and at-risk Larimer County children, has presented Heath Construction in Fort Collins the Beyond Business Award for the company’s decade-long service and support of Realities programs.
Fort Collins Mayor Karen Weitkunat presented the award at Realities’ 17th Annual Awards Gala, which honored individuals and organizations committed to helping ensure children in need are provided for and
not forgotten.
“Realities for Children works tirelessly to create a safety net for these vulnerable children,” said Randy DeMario, Heath president. “The Heath family – including our employees and their families – are moved by the impact Realities has made on thousands of children and enthusiastically volunteer to help the charity grow.”
Heath’s support of Realities began in 2005, when employees designed and built the first NightLights steel Christmas tree, which is the focal point for Realities’ largest annual fundraising event. Businesses and individuals sponsor decorative lights for $100 each that adorn the 50-foot-tall tree. After the holidays, Heath volunteers dismantle the massive steel tree, which weighs several tons.
During the 2013 holiday season, 30,000 brilliant blue lights adorned the tree. Donations totaled $122,000. Every dollar raised is used to benefit children, with more than 1,500 children supported in December alone.
“What Heath Construction does for Realities is truly a community gift,” said Craig Secher, Realities founder. “They directly impact the lives of thousands of less-fortunate children who benefit from the 25 programs and local youth agencies that NightLights helps to financially support.”
